How much life insurance do you need?

A coverage estimate tool with step-by-step logic: income years, debts, education, and what you have set aside.

Add up your income's replacement value, then subtract existing resources. This doesn't have to be precise; term policies come in round amounts anyway, and the goal is stability when income is lost.

Coverage estimate

$1,765,000

Coverage = (annual income × years of protection) + outstanding debts + children's education costs − current savings and group benefits, rounded to the nearest $5,000. It's a framework, not professional guidance.

Why those inputs

Years of income replacement. Planners typically recommend ten to twenty years; your household's number depends on dependents' age at income loss. Victorville families with young children tend to select twenty or more because costs for childcare, housing, and education overlap.

Loans and mortgages. Most families carry a mortgage as their biggest debt. Term coverage sufficient to pay it off gives survivors the option to keep the house without being forced by finances.

Schooling. A rough per-child number in current dollars. Locking it in now is simpler than buying another policy layer down the road.

Current resources. Liquid savings available to the family and workplace coverage through an employer. Group plans usually expire when employment ends, so most people factor in only part of it.

Once you've decided on your coverage target, the quote tool compares that amount across 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30-year terms with all carriers. A slightly larger amount often costs only a few dollars more per month, especially at younger ages.
